Baja Bloody Maria

Grapefruit and pomegranate juice round out the smoky Bloody Baja in this tequila cocktail.

Boy, do we love tequila. Not only is it fun to sip on, but by swapping out the vodka for tequila in a Bloody Mary, we turn it into a Bloody Maria - and that's where our Bloody Baja mix really shines. In this cocktail, we use pomegranate juice to evoke the flavor of sangrita, the blend of fresh vegetables and fruit juices that traditionally accompanies agave tequila in Jalisco, Mexico.

Ingredients

  • Our mix of choice: Bloody Baja (Click here to snag some!)

  • 2 oz silver Tequila

  • 1 oz grapefruit juice

  • 1 oz pomegranate juice

  • Lime wheel and crispy bacon, for garnish

Method

Fill a shaker or mixing glass with ice. Combine the tequila, grapefruit juice, and pomegranate juice and stir until very cold. Strain into a highball or Collins glass over fresh ice. Top with 4-6 ounces of Bloody Baja to taste. Garnish with a lime wheel and a piece of crispy bacon. ¡Salud!

Or, for something different: try enjoying these flavors in the more traditional sangrita style. Rather than mixing the tequila and other ingredients together, pour the tequila into a glass and set aside. Chill the juices, strain, and combine with Bloody Baja per the instructions above, and serve in a separate glass. Alternative sips between the two - first the tequila, then the juice - and enjoy how the sweet, savory, and tart flavors of the tomato mixture compliment the tequila.
